Lessons in launching new things

What over a decade of building and operationalizing new business initiatives taught me about change.

You almost can’t get around Change with a big “C” these days. For many of us, paving new paths for the team or organization has become part of the job description. And for some, joining organizations as Change or Transformation Agent is even the only job description.

I find the term hyped, chronically overused, and breeding ground for misunderstandings of what that change should encompass. Clear objectives and vision become more than essential. They are a non-negotiable starting point of any conversation about change.

But this isn’t a how-to article about Change. Instead, it’s a reflection of my many experiences of coming into organizations as a change agent, either as my role’s primary objective or at least in part. And although I hate the term “change agent”, it’s the only one that adequately fits in this context.
